North Vancouver, 8.68 kW Solar Energy System

This system was designed to achieve net zero and power an electric vehicle with the sun. It has solar panels that face both east and west, following the sun’s path throughout the day. It is an extremely efficient system because we used the latest in microinverter technology and the solar panels are the highest quality and most durable on the market.

System performance

  • 8.68 kW system size (28 solar panels)

  • Solar energy generation is 8,600 kWh/year

Point Grey Area Vancouver, 9.05 kW Solar Energy System

The owner’s goal was to build a net zero home. They wanted to create a healthy home by emphasizing the use of green, natural, and eco-friendly materials that are sustainable and minimize the use of harmful chemicals.

We designed and installed a solar energy system to cover their energy consumption. We also provided consultation on heat pumps for electric space heating and hot water, recommended their Passive House certified windows, as well as helped them find the sustainability-driven prime contractor called Kingdom Builders.

System performance

  • 9.05 kW system size (27 solar panels)

  • Solar energy generation is 10,400 kWh/year

North Vancouver, 6.30 kW Solar Energy System

This solar energy system soaks in the sun all day by taking advantage of three roofs facing south, east, and west. The design and installation of solar PV was combined with a service upgrade and equipping the driveway with a Tesla EV charger. The solar panels are not only covering most of the home’s electricity needs but also charging one of the most efficient and low carbon cars in the world!

East Vancouver, 8.68 kW Solar Energy System

This system serves a duplex where two families live. The homeowners decided to come together and have their entire shared garage covered with solar panels. It is a great example of community in East Vancouver and makes us smile! Incorporating the highest quality solar panels in the world, we expect this solar PV system to be generating for 30 to 40 years.

System performance

  • 8.68 kW system size (28 solar panels)

  • Solar energy generation is 9,000 kWh/year

Vancouver, 5 kW Solar Energy System

The City of Vancouver has tight rules and guidelines around installing solar energy systems onto roofs in Vancouver. For this project, we met with the Development & Building Team numerous times to ensure that the proposed racking was consistent with their wind load and maximum point load parameters. The solar system took two days to install and is split into two sections, 8 solar panels on the West-facing roof and 8 solar panels on the East-facing roof.

System performance

  • 5 kW system size (16 solar panels)

  • Solar energy generation is 5,050 kWh/year

Smithers, 7.04 kW Solar Energy System

The owner of this new build home had pre-engineered his roof for solar. It has zero obstructions, slopes 33 degrees directly South, and the home run to the breaker panel is only a few feet. This combination made for an efficient design that generates his yearly electricity demand, even in a chilly location like Smithers, BC!

Tŝilhqot’in Solar Farm, 1250 kW Solar Energy System

Indigenous communities in BC are responsible for 50% of Canada's renewable energy projects. One of the leaders is the Tŝilhqot’in National Government, which is made up of six different First Nations including the Yunesit’in First Nation. They have a sustainable economic growth plan which highlights renewable energy projects as central to its success.

Dolly Kershaw and Chief Russel Myers Ross, of the Yunesit’in First Nation, led the drive for this project along with Michel de Spot of EcoSmart.

Jennifer provided technical and project management support on the 1.25MW solar farm in 2016 during her Clean Energy Engineering Masters degree. During that time, Jennifer attended site visits with Engineer Michel de Spot to determine the best location for the solar farm. She also attended Solar Power International in the USA and scouted all eligible solar panel manufacturing companies to supply the 3,500 solar panels for the project. This was the single largest purchase for the Tŝilqhot’in Solar Farm.

This project received the go ahead from BC Hydro in 2016, including a signed Electricity Purchase Agreement. Construction started in September 2018 with a construction crew that is 100% indigenous workers, all members of the six Tŝilhqot’in communities. The installation was complete and connection to the BC Hydro grid was in May 2020.

The project is the largest solar farm of its kind in BC and the only one that is 100% owned and operated by a First Nation.

System performance

  • 1,250 kW system size (3,500 solar panels)

  • Operational since May 2020

  • Solar farm’s energy generation is 1,500,000 kWh/year and powers 135 homes

  • Made use of the former River West sawmill in the Chilcotin region near Williams Lake

  • Provides local jobs for First Nations and new skills in the renewable energy sector

  • Generates revenue for the First Nations of $175,000 per year

  • Supports drive for independence and self-sufficiency by providing 30% of the community’s electricity
